We Do Write

Do you have a specific writing style or approach to writing your books?

I’d say I’m 80 percent plotter, 20 percent panster. I figure out my basic plot, then I do a chapter outline. After that I flesh it all out. If a scene is really playing out in my mind, though, I’ll write it right away.

How did you come up with the title of your book?

I was goofing around. Seriously. I can’t remember exactly HOW it happened, but I was more or less making fun of my book … and I guess playing on the title My Sister’s Keeper.

What were the challenges (research, literary, psychological, and logistical) in bringing it to life?

World rules are my biggest challenge. Things can’t just happen because they’re convenient to the plot. There have to be limits – especially if you’re writing about magic – and a writer has to have clear ideas about where those limits are. It’s a challenge to me because I don’t like to explain why my world is the way it is. 😉

What books have most influenced your life?

I’d have to say the Harry Potter series. These books really catapulted me into wanting to create magical people in magical worlds.

What authors have influenced your life and writing?

Right now I’m very influenced by Veronica Roth. I love how she can keep a reader glued to a page, and I’m trying to learn that craft.

What are your current projects?

I’m writing the sequel to My Sister’s Reaper.

If you’re not writing full-time now, do you see writing as a career in the future?

Yes! I want this very much. It will happen one day (I’ll make it so!), I just have to work on it.

Who designed your cover (s)?

A wonderful woman from Denmark named Mette Breth Klausen

Who is your publisher and what are a few things you like about their business platform?

Month9Books is an amazing company. Georgia McBride is a fabulous business-savvy professional. I feel safe in her hands. What I like best, is that everyone at Month9Books, aside from really knowing how a publishing company ticks,  is so incredibly friendly and open and caring. It feels like a family.

Thanks so much to Dorothy for stopping by.  She’ll be going on a blog tour with her new book starting May 27th.  Check her out at Month9Books, http://month9booksblog.com/our-authors/dorothy-dreyer/.  Please share any comments or questions you have below.  Dorothy will hang around for a while to visit with you.
