What did you learn while writing Conquest and Redemption?

Because I write in the fantasy genre under another name, I simply wanted to try something new. It wasn’t easy at first. I struggled greatly with trying to figure out what I wanted to write about and if I really could write romance.

Releasing the short story, Conquest was a smart idea and a totally bad idea. It got my name out there, but it also anger people greatly that they didn’t have more to read. The story was only 2,500 words. Don’t ask me what I was thinking. Since releasing it in November 2012, it’s been downloaded as a free ebook some 60,000 times so I know people are looking at it. I added the first two chapters from Redemption to the short a few weeks ago and that seem to have helped the negative complaints.

I’m anxious to see what interest Redemption generates and see if readers like my version of paranormal romance. I watched so many of my favorite romance files, read love poetry, and tried my best to really think about the concept of ‘true love’ and not letting an opportunity for love pass you by. That was my focus. It was great fun and I hope to be writing another novella in the series for a May release. We’ll see how it all goes.

What is the theme of the overall series, My Vampire Lover?

I love the romance novels where the lovers want to be together, but can’t. I like the idea of Caroline and Raphael wanting to be together, but because they come from different worlds it is a big struggle for them.

What inspires you to write?

Actually I’m new to all of this. A friend suggested I sit down and write the story I have been telling her and that’s what I’m doing. It’s a new adventure for me and I’m very excited about doing something creative. Simply, I like to think of this series as a love story I’m writing. Once I complete it, I’ll look to the next story to write.

How many books to you anticipate will be in this series?

Probably 4 novellas. I’ve already started work on My Vampire Lover Part #3 and hope to have it out by the summer.

I’d like to thank Victoria for being on my blog today and wish her the best of luck with her Release party and the success of her series, My Vampire Lover. Be sure to leave a comment after you read the excerpt.

EXCERPT from Redemption (The following excerpt is for MATURE AUDIENCES ONLY)

He smiled at me smugly and focused his attention on my hips. I followed his gaze. He wrapped both of his hands around mine as I held his cock against my naked belly. He stroked my hands, and then opening up the palms of his large hands, he quietly encouraged me to assume the task. When I took charge, he mumbled, “You’re stronger than you think.”

A fever of blushes covered my face. “Oh my goodness, did I hurt you?” I wanted to blush again, but his declaration, that he felt something quite literally when he had met me surfaced in my mind and sent me into oblivion. True love. I gazed up at him, marveling at the look of pleasure on his face. True love.

He moaned and rocked his hips gently into my hands.

I rubbed the head of his cock with my thumb, feeling a sweet stickiness at the tip.

Raphael moved his hand between my thighs and rubbed my clit, his fingers pumping inside me a few times.

My hips met his movements and I groaned, feeling the warmth of his manhood slide between my legs.

“I don’t want to control these feelings I have for you.” He gathered me up in his arms. “I don’t know where they came from. Maybe it was the wolf chant that did it. I don’t know for sure, but I know I feel this.”

A slight smile crossed his lips. He embraced me tightly and then picked me up in his arms.

I placed my hand over his heart. “True love,” I whispered as the words expelled out of my mouth in the form of a few short breaths. Could it be?

“This can’t be wrong, Caroline. I don’t want to deny the possibility of the love we can have. Say you agree?”

“I think I already love you, Raphael. I’ve never known anyone like you. You’re a glorious, magnificent vampire.”

When I felt his easing himself into me, my body melted. “Oh my god, yes,” I cried out. “Yes! Yes!” Wanting to increase our pace, I started to ride him with a newborn intensity. The warmth of his blood raced through my veins. “I’m yours,” I cried out. “I’m yours!”

“Shh,” he said. “Don’t listen to my blood. I don’t want you to be my servant or blood source. Equal.” With his muscular arms, he brought me up and down a time or two, shifting the rhythm of lovemaking to a slower urgency. “I want us to be equals. I want to cherish this moment forever. I want to look in your eyes as I’m inside you and know if we are never to be together again we had this one moment, out here in this wasteland.”

“By this rock,” I purred, letting him assume control.

“Not too fast, my sweet. Savor this feeling.”

I smiled down into his striking, pale blue eyes, watching how they glowed in the low light. His dark eyelashes fluttered now and again, but he refused to take his eyes off of me as we made love in such a desolate place. I grew hotter by the minute witnessing the desire in his stare. I studied him. There was an inherent strength in his features, almost a haughtiness I could visualize him giving to others he disliked. For me, in that moment, that strength was etched across his face with a look of devotion and confidence I had never seen before. The turquoise blue in his eyes brought out a growing passion I could see that was all for me. This could be my destiny, being with this man forever. If I was as bold as I had just been taking him in my hands, a future with this vampire could be in my grasp. But it meant sacrificing everything. Just for him.

When I felt myself about to climax, my head fell backwards and I gave myself up to him completely. I let him lead the way and delighted in the ecstasy of his deliberately slow pace. Waves of warmth rushed through my body as I neared orgasm. I’ll remember this moment forever.

“Slowly, my sweet. Slowly.”

I screamed the first time I came. His hands rhythmically worked my hips up and down on his cock, refusing to stop. He increased the speed of his movements ever so slightly. I was helpless to stop his lovely hastened pace. My heart raced rapidly and I wanted to slam my body into his, feverishly, insanely, erotically like I was in control of him, like he was there to please me and only me.

“Shhh,” he said. He gathered me close against his chest. “That’s the blood talking. Don’t listen to that. It’ll pass. Focus on this.” He pulled me upwards and let me slide down again on his massive manhood. “Come for me again, Caroline.”

Love is in the Air

Love is in the Air

From the moment Celia, the emerald-eyed, Comanche half-breed, gets off the stage in Tyler, Texas, Seth Loflin realizes he is on a collision course with the past. She was his first love and now the Shooter Creek’s ranch boss can’t allow her to succumb to the danger that stalks her. Someone wants to kidnap her and sell her as a slave, but now that she’s in his protective arms, he intends to keep her safe. Celia can’t run back to the safety of her former life in South Carolina. And if she stays at Shooter Creek with Seth, she’ll be putting the man she has always loved and his ranch in danger of harboring a Comanche. But Seth refuses to leave her side, and his vow to protect her gives Celia the hope and courage she needs. Now she’ll fight for her new life with Seth…or die trying.

The blurb says it all.  True love endures despite the time apart or the circumstances.  Love is in the Air is the celebration of the emotion that can change the world one heart at a time.  I’m pleased to be a part of the week long party!  Here’s a excerpt from Comanche Haven, Celia and Seth’s story of love despite the odds…

He took her again loosely in the circle of his arms before giving her chin another tracing.

“Do you remember the Creek?”   She cut her gaze back to his as she fingered the buttons of his shirt.

“I remember.  Those nights live in my mind still.  You were the only thing that mattered to me.  I can remember the first time I ever saw you on the creek bank.”  He gave her one of his killer smiles.

“Oh, Seth, you would have to bring up that.”  Playfully chiding him, Celia remembered the night too when, as she bathed, Seth had rode up and discovered her in the water.  “I thought you the most brash, vulgar, loathsome devil.  You simply sat there, staring at me with that brilliant smile on your arrogant face.  A gentleman would have turned away.”  Celia feigned a pout.  There was a burning in her depths that needed controlling.

Seth let out a rush of a laugh.  “Was that what you called me?  Funny, but it sounded a lot different in Comanche.”  He inclined his head.  “Darlin’, you know I’m no gentleman.  But I thought you the most beautiful creature I’d ever laid eyes on.  I have to confess, I enjoyed looking my fill at your loveliness.”

His chuckle fanned the flame growing deep inside.  Celia found she had to grope for control.  She knew very well, he wasn’t a saint.  He’d always been her sinner.  Somehow, she mused, that was exactly what she wanted.  In fact, he was what she’d always wanted.  The devil take her, but tonight, she wanted Seth.

“Instead, I found a little temptress hoping I’d look my fill.”

Celia’s mouth fell open.  “Ah!  You are a cur!”  Struggling as he laughed, Celia tried to escape simply for affect.

He pulled her close.  “You know damn well that you wanted me as much as I wanted you back then.”  Dark smoldering eyes watched her.  “If the truth be told, I think you still do.”  With smooth agility, he pulled her up by her arms, as he centered her back against the wall again.

The shadows grew deeper.  Nothing made a sound.

“Did it ever occur to you that I may have wanted you to stay?  To wait for me?”

She couldn’t see his face.  But she heard his words take on a hard edge with a trace of pain.

“Yes, but…”  Celia’s voice cracked over the simple reply.  She struggled to find the words that would explain her flight all those years ago.  She couldn’t.  The words wouldn’t come.  Her eyes traced the angles of his face that was so close to hers now.  There was only one way to ease the tension between them.  Celia leaned in.  Her breath left her throat as Seth met her advance with one of his own.

They wrapped arms around each other, melding into one another.  Time ceased as their mouths explored each other’s.  Sensations, long buried rose and feasted.  Those questions that haunted them both would have to wait.

“Deny you want me.  Go ahead!”  His voice grew ragged and breathy, as he streamed kisses across her mouth, her face, her throat.

His fingers dug in, bruising her arms, but she didn’t care.  She wanted him despite tomorrow.  She wanted his hands on her no matter what the daylight brought.

Like the wolf after prey, Seth took her mouth again and again in a primal, savage assault.  Lost in the need, Seth groaned when his hand found her breast.

Celia escaped his mouth for one precious moment to pull air into her lungs.  Then the world went spinning.

His fingertips raced like hot brands over her flesh.

Check out The Lady in the Mist at Amazon and leave a comment with your email addy for a chance to win The Lady in the Mist, The Western Werewolf Legend in ebook format!

Since the sequel to The Lady in the Mist, The Western Werewolf Legend is due in out in April, I’ve decided to share an excerpt from Waking up Dead.

Waking up Dead Blurb:  Sonja Brooks, a widow and survivor of a werewolf attack falls for a confederate lieutenant, Tyler Loflin she saves from death.  Their relationship takes an unexpected turn when they flee the ravages of war and the vampires hell bent on capturing Sonja for her blood – the blood of werewolf gods and the key to walking in the light for the bloodsuckers.  Will they make it to Texas or wake up dead?

Sonja Brooks’ pulse quickened as she peered down the dirt trail that lead to her farmhouse in southern Pennsylvania that gray September morning.  The world seemed so surreal.  Yes, it was 1864 and yes, the North hated the South.  Horse hoofs pounded the ground in resounding reverberation.  Yankee troops on dispatch from Spotsylvania was her best guess.  She would face the enemy alone and the knowledge made her heart rise into her throat.  You’ve got to gather your wits, woman!  There’s no one here to help you now.  Her sigh came out in a puff of smoke on the cool morning air.  Alone again…

Through the mist of the early morning haze the demons rode.  Ironic the vampires could move during the daylight hours but a heavy fog had rolled in with the breaking of dawn and the sky was overcast.  Thanks to the fog, if she wanted to challenge her adversary, Sonja too, would be limited to the shadows of the trees.  Drawing the bloodsuckers into the deadly light would test her newly honed skills.  Not a small task for one so recently reborn a werewolf.

Two by two they rode, their horses’ hooves striking the hard packed clay of the main road.  By all accounts, her old enemy, Major Perkins intended to intimidate her with their sheer numbers.  Having already faced him once and sure she’d ripped the life from him, Sonja was mildly annoyed to find him hale and hardy and headed her way.  The bloody bastard simply wouldn’t die!  Arrogant ass, he proved a thorn in her side even now.  Perkins needed a stake through the heart as the witch, Hortence had suggested.

Ty needed to be with her.  Tyler Loflin, her lover and Confederate Lieutenant,  would have understood the demons plan for attack.  Sonja managed to smile.  He could hold his own against these bastards.  These blue-bellied traitors to the Union weren’t human any longer, yet becoming vampires hadn’t diminished their military tactical skills one iota.  No, they still thirsted for victory in the form of blood.  Only, this time, the blood was hers and hers alone.

A tingling began like the burn of a small fire along her neck.  Tiny hairs rose and strained to bristle as she listened.  The ever present wolf inside Sonja surged forth.  A sneer broke and played out on her lips as she emitted one low growl.  Mere seconds passed before she swiped absently at the beads of perspiration along her temple.  The sweat trickled down the valley between her breasts as she fought to control the blood lust rising in her veins.  Willing the beast to calm, Sonja breathed deeply and centered on the task at hand.  Her eyes gleamed gold in the meager light as she scanned her small bedroom.  Her keen vision provided by being a werewolf didn’t miss a thing as did her ears, which were ever tuned toward danger.  Wrenching open the armoire, she shoved back the boxes at the base of the massive cabinet.  Only weeks before, she’d placed the Confederate Lieutenant’s gun under her most personal of clothing, her camisoles and lingerie.  The move was executed with an eye to the future and providing protection in the face of danger.  Only a fourth night had passed since his arrival when she’d hidden the gun there.  Without any solid information as to the good lieutenant’s mission, Sonja’d thought it only wise to hide his pistol in a safe place.  One never knew when the weapon would be needed or against whom.  She viewed the move as prudent – not stealing.  After all, she’d managed to remain alive for the past three years alone and with only her wits to protect her.  She cared little for which side a man’s loyalty lay with – preservation had been her main goal since the death of her husband.

“I reloaded the revolver with six wooden bullets and put it right here.”  Tapping the bottom of the armoire, Sonja frowned.  The fact she’d never had the chance to wear any of the lacey, alluring garments for Tyler after they’d become lovers pricked her womanly conscious briefly.  Shoving such nonsense aside in light of the situation, she found frustration bubbling as she looked deeper into the armoire’s base one more time.  “Oh, where was the damn gun?”  She had only minutes left before Perkin’s men arrived at her doorstep.  Before panic shredded what was left of her composure, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath as she fingered the medallion around her neck.

Tyler had given her the necklace on the eve of his court martial for being a deserter.  The truth behind his disappearance from his confederate detail had nothing to do with desertion and everything to do with love.  She knew this first hand.  Still the truth would have to remain between the two of them because Sonja had used an unorthodox elixir to heal Tyler, one the Yankee vampires would love to get their hands on.

Then when the Rebels had charged him with desertion and attempted to court martial her lover, Sonja had saved him once more using her gift – the ability to shift into a werewolf.  She’d surprised the Confederates, including, Jeb Stewart with a valiant daytime rescue of the handsome lieutenant.  Smiling to herself, Sonja remembered the feeling of being clad in only your skin and fur.  Accelerated and determined, she’d claimed him as her mate before they’d scoured the countryside in search of the men missing after the Vampires had attacked his unit in the depths of the swamp near her home.  Returning from Hortence, the witch’s cottage, she’d stumbled upon the lieutenant who was dying.  With the only medicine she possessed, she cured him with her blood, the coveted blood of a new beginning for her kind, the western order of the werewolf.  Hortence spoke of her gift as it were a legend and the great werewolf god, the Guardian told her she was the future.  Sonja comprehended little of this information.  She was mainly focused on survival.

After defeating the vampires in a battle to end all others, she and Tyler planned on leaving Pennsylvania post haste.  That was before Tyler had discovered the whereabouts of his men.  They’d been taken as prisoners of war in a nearby compound.  Sonja had pleaded with him not to go.  He didn’t listen.

“One so newly turned needed time to hone his skills.  We don’t have the luxury of time.”

“One doesn’t desert his friends without at least attempting to save them from the evil in these woods.  You of all people should understand that, Sonja.”

His words stung.  She wouldn’t have left him to die in the mist that lingered over the battlefield that dreadful night and being reminded of her sacrifice weighted heavy on her heart.  “Please be careful.”  Simply put but full of so much emotion, Sonja fisted her hand as she realized she’d been lost in worried thoughts again.

The sound of horses drawing near brought her back.  “Damn you, Ty.  Why’d you have to go and leave me like this?”  She stood, stamping her foot on the pine wood flooring.  Everything in her world had been perfect when she woke that morning, wrapped in his arms.  Not like now with her world and her plans spiraling out of control.  There were demons headed down her lane!  Growing more vexed by the second, Sonja vowed she would annihilate each and every Yankee vampire as soon as the demon bloodsuckers arrived.  Now where had she put the gun?

Her temper was shorter, her desire more keen and her senses all acutely aware since that dreadful night when she’d been attacked and received the “gift” as Hortence liked to call it.

The ticking of the clock on the wall broke her from her trance.  Stepping to the window, she glanced back down the road to see Perkins troop growing ever closer.  Oh, where was Ty?  When he returned, she planned on kicking his butt into tomorrow.  A twinge of doubt crept into her heart.  He would return, wouldn’t he?

Turning from the window, Sonja rushed about gathering the oil lamps, which were her only source of light at night.  Hopefully, Hortence’s spell would last long enough.  Without information like, how long one of her spells would protect the small cottage and Sonja as well, Hortence had simply vanished into thin air early that very morning, leaving Sonja alone.  Perhaps the whole thing was a test.  Yes, that was the way of things, Sonja decided as she doused the walls with coal oil.

Though irritated at the old hag’s tactics, she had to admit, she would have been hard pressed to fight vampires effectively without concern over the old woman’s safety had she remained.

The truth was that Sonja hated the idea of what she might do when she shifted into the wolf.  Never sure if she harmed an innocent or did something she would regret, while in the liken state, she would always come back to herself and seek out any and all to make sure of their well-being.

Now where was the gun?  Sonja snatched the slim boxes out so fast tissue paper flew like a covey of quail about the room.  The gun wasn’t there!  Damnation!  Her only hope now was for the sun to come out.  She glanced at the window.  The day’s light ranged between dismal and dank.

Horses, drawing closer!  Her heart rose again in her throat.  Mere minutes to decide what to do.  The small cottage she’d called home for over three years now seemed lonely without her mate,Ty there.  Damn his hairy soul to hell and back.  He wasn’t going to make it back in time.  The lieutenant would most likely arrive just about the time she killed off the rest of the confounded vampires.  No matter.  The one thing Sonja never concerned herself with, her prowess as a killer would protect her from harm.  Once the wolf was upon her, Sonja used her sense of right and wrong in destroying her enemies.

Sonja stepped to the front door and peered down the road.  One way in and one way out for everyone involved in this little sworea.  The swamp formed her property line to the west while the hills and Spotsylvania flanked the right.  The deterrents shouldn’t slow her progress among the humans.  “Among the humans…”  The words sounded strange to her tongue.  When had she made the delineation between herself and those she’d lived among and known all her life?

When she’d acquired ‘the gift’ came the answer in clipped notes of warning.  Her subconscious seemed always on high alert these days.

Tilting back her head, she sniffed, testing the air around her.  The smell of death grew stronger.  The stench always heralded the vampires’ arrival.  Soon, she’d face the demons who coveted the very blood that flowed in her veins – the blood of legend – the blood, which held the future for her kind.  Werewolves would survive because of her, or so she’d been told.  Hortence had emphasized the fact time and again.  Always instructing her in the ways of the wolf.  So it was and so she was reminded of her responsibility, the one she, Sonja Brooks held within her very life on a daily basis.  With a shrug of her shoulders, Sonja’s lips quirked slightly with the image even with the effort not to.  So if she was the future, gun or no gun, wooden bullets or not, she would dominate the day, rise to victory and vanquish this latest insurgent of the dreaded demon’s spawn, Roegainion.

He looked no different than he had at their last encounter.  Perkins rode a dusky gray Dapple with black socks.  His uniform bore the embellishment of an officer.  His rank as a major in the Union Army gave him a perfect cover for his death dealings.  Those not of his kind suspected nothing of his true identity as a right-hand lackey to the Succubus of the Damned.  Perkins jet-black hair framed a thin face with a pointed chin.  His pallor was milk white with gray undertones.  Coal black eyes rested soullessly in their sockets on either side of a prominent but straight nose.  The cavalry hat sitting jauntily atop his head was clean and the U.S. Army insignia gleamed in brass laced by gold braid.  Vampires did enjoy their dress blues.

Calmer now, Sonja’s resolve grew stronger.  If she must fight the vermin, Sonja vowed to allow them nothing of her former self as bounty.  Gathering the kerosene and lamps again, she finished dousing the cabin’s interior with the fuel.  When she reached the bed where she and Ty had made love only hours before she paused and closed her eyes for a moment.  The gift provided her with an excellent memory complete with physical sensations to the point of torture.  On a silent oath, she wheeled as the bed went up in flames.  Never looking back, she stalked to the front door and out on the porch to meet her guests.

Emerging from the shadows of the burned off mist, a magnificent jet-black horse gave a snort as he halted just shy of his rider’s legs.  With a jerk of his head, as if announcing his presence, he snorted and pawed the hard packed ground.  Sonja watched the magnificent animal prance in place with a smooth utterance from his master.

“Mrs. Brooks, we meet again.”  Perkins low, calm voice crept along her skin like an unwelcome sexual advance.

“Hello demon.  You’re looking good for a dead man.”

He shifted slightly, sitting taller in the saddle and stretched to square his shoulders.

Being over six feet tall, he sat the horse admirably, Sonja mused.  Most tall, skinny chaps presented a gangly, awkward mount.  Not Perkins – who even now ran a cool eye over Sonja.

“You recall I seem to have run into a bit of difficulty during our last meeting, but as you can tell, I overcame your pathetic little attempt at destroying me.”  With those words, he eased his ramrod posture and settled over the elbow he rested on the saddle horn.

Sonja smiled at the reminder of their last encounter.  She’d ripped the head and backbone from his flesh.  Apparently, vampires regenerated quite well.  He appeared whole and hearty to her.

Peering at her through slit black eyes, the vampire smirked.  “You should realize by now, you’ll never be rid of me or us for that matter, wolf girl.”  The sneer in his tone made her stomach want to lurch.  “You can try and we can dance the dance again and again, but you’ll lose and in the end, I’ll have what I came for – what I am destined to have – your blood.”

“You, sir, are delusional if you think you’ll ever defeat me or my clan.  We will survive and live for all eternity long after the rotting carcasses of you and the vermin with you are but the stench of a memory.”  She sniffed the air as if in disgust.  The smell of burning wood lay heavy in the morning mist.  Sonja hesitated and with a wrinkle of her nose flicked a glance back as fire leapt from the window behind her.  Though her heart constricted, Sonja refused to let it show.  Rather, with an ease of grace, she reached out with the pine knot in her hand.  Flames licked greedily at the wooden stick before catching with an audible whoosh.  With the pine knot aflame, Sonja held the torch in front of her.  The flames cast a yellowish glow on the vampires seated just inside the shadows of the great cypress trees flanking either side of the dirt path.  Their pallor reflected in their eyes like a yellow-fever victim’s sentence shown in their stricken eyes.

Some of the vermin hissed and a couple even threw up a hand to shield themselves from the potential predator of bloodsuckers – fire.

“Fear not, men.  This Liken is no different from the rest.  She holds the answers to no unknown truths, she bears no sorcery or witchcraft.  She is a beast that walks on four legs and spreads not those legs for her mate to mount her but bears his weight atop her rump as any whore would do.”

“Lucifer’s own,” Sonja murmured.  With about as much of the demon’s words as she could stand, she squared her stance and readied for battle.  “Come and get it demons!” she shouted.
