The Lady in the Mist, The Western Werewolf Legend #1

Driven by some inner demon, Ty sank deeper and deeper into her heat as the nymph turned sorceress writhed under him.  Her moans gave way to growls of pleasure as the hunger grew in them both.  Urged on by the craving, Sonja dug her nails into Ty’s back.  He tasted blood inside his mouth as teeth bit and tongues searched for sucker.  His world spiraled upward, the fever pitch, the likes of which he’d never experienced.  Pain became pleasure and ache became longing as this woman matched his lusty thrusts with a furor of her own until their appetites brought them to the pinnacle of the storm.  Ty’s world exploded into thousands of tiny lights as he watched her come.  Following her lead, he spilled his seed into her.

In the twilight of their coupling, Ty watched as she slept and marveled at the bliss he found in this woman’s arms.  Sonja held him captive and he wouldn’t know peace without her by his side.  Vowing he’d do everything in his power to keep her there, he drifted downward to be cradled in her arms.

The Lady in the Mist:

Ty followed her silently to the edge of the bed before running his hands down the length of Sonja’s back to where the dress hung on her hips.  With one push, he sent the garment falling to the floor in a pool of cotton and aged lace.  Taking his big hands, he reached around her, pressing her body to his.  She fit perfectly to the hard plains and contours of his skin.  As if she’d been made for him, she hugged his heat.  His fingers traced the lines of her woman’s shape and soon he found her mound, the curls tantalizing and inviting.  The soft moan, as it left her lips, whispered his name and she moved under his hand.  Exploring the tender folds of her woman’s flesh, he found her wet and ready.  She turned in his arms, pressing her mound to his groin as she urged him with her thrusts.

Sonja leaned further back on the bed, “Now…” she whispered.

With one swift move, Ty scooped her up, depositing her under him.  He wasted no time in following her to the soft down of the mattress.  Spreading her legs, Ty hovered over Sonja as he peered into her face.  The passion he saw there spoke to him more than words as he drove himself inside her, plunging deep and feeling her fist around him like a velvet glove.

She bowed, calling his name, “Yes, Ty, oh yes!”

“Help me, Ty!”

Her anxious directive caught him off guard.  Ty opened his eyes and blinked.  Sonja stood in front of him with her forehead creased in frustration.  The effort to free him from his pants proved too much.  Did she realize how beautiful she looked standing there in the half-light of the sun streaming through the window?  Ty’s head swam as he watched her frustration with the buttons of his trousers.

“Here, let me.”  Ty stilled her hands and deftly undid his pants, stepping out.  The scare along his thigh, still angry and tender, stretched taught.  Ty flinched involuntarily.  How long had it been since he’d been with a woman?

She reached out and laid trembling fingers on his arm.

He swore low as his shaft jumped.  His blood, already warm, surged through his body like a fire through dry tender.  Unable to stop the rush, he let his head fall back and reveled in the sensation.  No woman had ever made him feel like Sonja did.

Her slow glide downward awakened nerve endings, igniting them into flames.  Tentative fingers slid along the taught flesh just above the crisp hair surrounding his shaft.  Her face filled with anticipation as she touched his heat.  Closing her eyes, she smiled as he throbbed in her fist.  Suddenly, her eyes flew open and she reached out, taking his hand in hers as she picked up her skirt and headed for the bedroom.

Thursday Teaser

Blue2LadyMist_2013_500_700Each Thursday for the next month, I plan on sharing a short teaser from The Lady in the Mist, The Western Werewolf Legend #1.  The second book in the series, Waking up Dead is due out in April, so in preparation for it’s debut, I would like to share various snippets from book #1.  Enjoy and please leave a comment.  I’d love to hear what you think.

From The Lady in the Mist:

Lowering his head, Ty captured her mouth and with a low rumble in his throat, tasted her sweetness. The flavor of her was intoxicating.  Forcing the danger and the old woman’s prophecy to the back of his mind, he ran his tongue along her teeth.  Sonja’s urgent response had him molding her body to his.  In a fevered rush, Ty worked at the intricate buttons of her dress.  She in turn showered his face with kisses all the while murmuring low, inane words in his ear as she ran her hands under his shirt and up the hard expanse of his chest.  When he traced her bare back to the dip of her hip, Ty closed his eyes on the feeling of her satin flesh under his hand.  “Are you a dream?” he murmured close to her ear.

“No, no dream.  I’m flesh and blood born to love you and be loved by you, Rebel.”

Starting 2013 Off With a Bang

You know how the old saying in writing goes – Enjoy the small milestones?  Well Saturday was filled with small milestones.  The day began for me with a check of Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Amazon – the sites I usually update as part of my Indie Author “Booking” process.  Yes, I have a marketing strategy – I call it “Booking”.  Don’t laugh!  Anyway, I got to Amazon and was checking my ranking in each category when I noticed something new at the bottom of the demographics for The Lady in the Mist, The Western Werewolf Legend.  The caption read #38 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Fiction > Fantasy > Historical .  Immediately I clicked on the link and held my breath.  Sure enough at #38 my book’s cover appeared!  I couldn’t believe my eyes!  I had published The Lady in the Mist back in October, 2012.  The first two chapters of the complete novel were offered free on Amazon.  Apparently, patience paid off with this one, because the book finally made a list.  Now you can visualize me dancing around my living room in a wild happy dance.  I even got a high-five from the hubby!

That was the first thing good thing that occurred.  Next came with an invitation I received from a Facebook friend to pitch to an editor at Samhain Publishing.  Saturday, January 12th rolled around and I submitted my pitch.

Sunday, I opened my email to find a response from my Facebook friend telling me not one but two of my stories had been chosen to pitch to the editor.  Whether the editor likes them or not is still up for grabs.  I was just tickled to death to be selected to share my stories with her.   My two stories were included in thirty out of 59 submissions.  Again, we do the happy dance!

In 2013 my resolution with regard to my writing is to relish the small steps and be thankful.  It’s so easy to brush them aside or make light of these steps when they are actually rungs on the ladder to success.   The definition of the word success, in my opinion, will change as I strive to create and improve  my writing.   I look forward to the journey and the small steps in 2013 – how about you?

Thanks for sharing your small steps in comments following this blog post.  I would love to hear from you!  Here’s a little something free I’d like to share with you as my way of saying “Thanks for dropping by.”  Best wishes to everyone in their 2013 journeys.

Good Morning Woes

It’s bedtime and I lay half awake in an attempt to get my mind to slow and shut down so we can go to sleep.  But my mind isn’t ready to do that and sends me what it thinks are some great ideas for my latest writing project.  My conscious says, “That’s a great idea!  Let’s remember that.”  But, alas, when my body wakes in the a.m. it’s the same old sad story of what was that last thought I had before I went to sleep.

Don’t waste your good ideas. Those fleeting thoughts that come to you just as your conscious mind and your creative self relax to rest.  Write them down. After waking far too many times and struggling to remember what it was I thought was such a good idea the night before, I have finally given in to forgetfulness.  I now vow to always keep a pen and paper on the nightstand beside my bed to jot these wonderful thoughts my mind gives me after I quit fighting and just let the thoughts come.  Sigh…

Good morning to all out there in writing land. Make it a good day!

Tucked Away

I’m wondering if anyone is like me.  My, but that was an open ended statement.  No, really, if you’re like me, you get these great ideas and you write them down.  Maybe the ideas come to you over a period of several days or weeks, and then you put the journal down or, better yet, you tuck it into a ‘safe place’ to be pulled out when the time comes to share it with, let’s say with your sister, who also loves to write, or maybe even potential readers of your work.  Sigh…  The only problem is, you can’t remember where you put the silly thing!

So what do you do?  Panic?  Since this happens to me so often, I’ve learned this particular reaction does very little good.  Still a little panic and the frustration that follows always occurs and then I’m worn out.  Recently, I’ve learned that if it’s in my house, it’s most probably safe, so I calm myself, knowing that someday it will be unearthed.

Usually this occurs when a male family member comes to me inquiring about something else I ‘tucked away’.  I do have a recurring vision of my great-grandkids going through Grandmaw’s things after she’s gone and wondering who this crazy old lady was.

Okay, back to the present time.  Yesterday, I was inspired (hounded) into seeking out one of those items the men in my household use to hunt with.  These items are considered gold from September to January each year and then once again ignored until ” ‘She’ puts them somewhere.”  While I was searching out the buried treasure that ‘She put somewhere’, I was distracted by a pile of RWA (Romance Writers of America) publications stacked neatly in a magazine basket and ‘tucked away’ in an upstairs bedroom.  Upon closer inspection, I found my own gold tucked tidely away between the magazines.  My treasure was my journal containing the first three beginning chapters to my next book, “Waking Up Dead”.   Oh, by the way, the hunting thing-a-bob (treasure) was also located.

Now everyone in the little house that eats things is happy hunting, writing, and living happily ever-after.  The end.

The Joy of Writing

Creative writing is a way for me to express things that mean alot to me.  I have ideas floating around in my head all the time and writing helps me sort them out and at least get them on paper.  The written word is a marvelous way to express your concerns, ideas, thoughts, joys, sorrows and just let off steam from time to time.  You also learn to understand the people around you better with a bit of consideration on paper.  Writing down our concerns allows us to put to bed the things that would otherwise fester and hurt our well-being.

To me, creative writing is like taking flight.  The sky is the limit and you are free to experience the free-fall or fly through the air on the wings of your words or simply float back to earth secure in the knowledge that you can do it all again whenever you choose.

Expressing yourself in words allows a person to grow, to bloom, and to be so much more while also being documented in print.  With that said, be careful your expression doesn’t come back to haunt you.  Unkind observations and detrimental opinions can hurt deeply, so use your skill wisely.  Freedom isn’t without responsiblity, nor is it a license to manipulate.  We all exsist together and should strive to respect those around us as we would like the same respect from them.

I am thrilled by the opportunity the internet gives us today.  It allows us to communicate with others so much easier.  Letters and postcards for the most part may be a thing of the past soon.  Blogging, like I’m attempting to do now, is a form of self-expression.  Some of us would simply like to be heard.  Our jobs and our lives may be solitary or confinded to the seemingly small world we live in daily.  To be able to express oneself opens up a whole new relm of possibilities.  What we decide to do with those possibilities is entirely up to us.  Isn’t it?

The joy of writing is something everyone can enjoy.  Whether you are a reader or an author, pleasure is gained from the experience.  Enjoy the written word!
